Existential Concerns
Existential concerns impact all of us in different ways, whether or not we are consciously aware of them. These types of questions and conversations typically involve themes of meaning, purpose, and the very nature of being human.
It is human nature to think about the way we are living our lives, and many of us worry that we are not living life the way we could be or the way we should be. Many of us feel overwhelmed with the knowledge that time is passing and feel an immense amount of pressure to “find our purpose” or to contribute to the world somehow. If you are reading this and nodding along, please know that you are not alone. These types of thoughts and fears are part of the human existence, and they can be pretty heavy to navigate on our own.
Existential dialogue helps us grapple with certain givens that all of us experience during our lifetimes such as: feeling anxious about the future, feeling lonely or feeling isolated, dealing with the weight that comes with making decisions, our fears about life and death, and how to cope with the unknown – so, basically, some pretty significant stuff falls within this territory. Therapy can be a great outlet to process how these aspects of life are impacting you day-to-day, give you some space to reflect on how you personally define meaning within your life, and help you lead a more fulfilling life in the present-day.
