stressed, stress management

“It’s not the load that breaks you down, but the way you carry it.” ~Lou Holtz, American football player & coach

How Do I Deal With Stress?

Stress is part of the human experience. However, as more time goes on the more we have glorified being busy. It is not unusual to find ourselves burning the candle at both ends for too long until one day this stops working for us. All of a sudden we realize that we can’t keep going on like we used to. Downplaying our stress can cause significant emotional and physical health problems to build over time. You may be a super person, but no one is super human!

The good news is, you don’t have to deal with this alone. Counseling can help you learn how to manage your stress. Your therapist may work with you on stress management techniques, setting boundaries, and relaxation strategies. I know you may be thinking,
“adding one more thing to my plate is the last thing I need!” Most of the time when we are feeling this way, our self-care is the first to go. Keep in mind that working on this may feel more taxing at first. However, over time you and your therapist will work towards alleviating your stress and not adding to it. Remember, taking time for yourself is not selfish…it’s self-care.
