How to Take Care of Yourself During the Holidays

How is it already December? This year has been a blur!

Even more of a reason to take care of ourselves, as the year comes to an end. I’ve already started listening to holiday music. The other day Silver Bells came on. You know the one by Bing Crosby…

“City sidewalks, busy sidewalks Dressed in holiday style In the air there’s a feeling of Christmas Children laughing, people passing Meeting smile after smile And on every street corner you hear…

Silver bells, (silver bells)

silver bells (silver bells) It’s Christmas time in the city ring-a-ling, (ring-a-ling) Hear them ring, (hear them ring) Soon it will be Christmas day

Strings of street lights, even stoplights blinkin’ bright red and green As the shoppers rush home with their treasures Hear the snow crunch, see the kids bunch This is Santa’s big day And above all this bustle you hear…”

Busy sidewalks and as the shoppers rush home with their treasures stood out to me. The season tends to be so stressful a lot of times because we feel obligated to give gifts. We spend way more than we should which stresses us even more. We have this perfect idea of what we think the day will be like. So we do outlandish things like body slam others to get the discounted TV we want on black Friday. I mean, I’m not saying I don’t like a good deal, but in reading the words again to Silver Bells I thought, maybe it’s a good reminder to take care of ourselves.

There’s all this hustle and bustle and lots of good stuff too like laughing and time with family, but “above all this bustle you hear…Silver Bells.” Maybe Bing was talking about reminding us above all take care of you. You are the silver bell…Or maybe I just ruined that song for eternity for you. In which case, turn the channel and rock out to Jingle Bells and forget you read this. But if this little reminder stood out to you, maybe you want to also check out this great article on 30 simple ways to take care of yourself during the holidays. My favorite one is setting your intention.
