Relationship Counseling
What is relationship counseling?
Relationship counseling, also known as couple’s therapy or couple’s counseling, is a type of therapy geared toward those who are in a partnership. Many people think that one must be married to try couple’s counseling, but that’s not true! There is a reason why we did not name this “marital counseling or “marriage counseling”. Every type of relationship can benefit from dedicating time to their relationship with the help of a counselor, including relationships within families.
Do I need to make my partner or family member come with me to work on our relationship?
Absolutely not. If your loved one does not want to come in for a session with you, then forcing it will likely not help your relationship. In this case, we recommend coming in for an individual session for yourself. This will give you a chance to work with your therapist on processing how the relationship is impacting you and ways to cope with the difficulties. Conversely, when one individual in a relationship begins to work on themselves and on different ways of coping and responding, the relationship can improve as a positive “side effect” of your individual hard work.
