Relationship Series: Me, Myself, and I
Written By: Leah J. Singer, M.Ed., LPC, RYT-200
Consider the relationships that have been the most meaningful in your life. What made them so significant? Perhaps it was your age, the timing, or the circumstance. Perhaps it was because the bond provided a sense of acceptance, love, and protection. Or perhaps it’s the relationship where you experienced profound or subtle heartache (we all have had one to some degree). Or maybe it was the friendship where you were able to remove that mask worn to keep up appearances and you felt safe enough to unapologetically be yourself.
All of the peaks and valleys and highs and lows experienced in your relationships all have one common denominator – you. Although some relationships remain steady for seasons, there are some that are passing and momentary. Despite such impermanence, the enduring and permanent relationship that has remained constant is the one with you.
So, how are you investing in a relationship with you? In what ways do you spend quality time with yourself? How are you being your best partner?
As we evolve, the relationship to ourselves does too and throughout any and every relationship we have it will remain constant and true. Whatever your relationship status is, always remember that the most important relationship you will ever have is the one with yourself. Continue to be your best partner first and choose yourself over and over again.
